The Virginian was television's very first 90 minute weekly series; it ran from 1962 to 1971 and was TV's third longest running western behind Gunsmoke and Bonanza. It was filmed entirely in color for 249 episodes.
The series followed the daily life of the foreman of the ranch known as Shiloh Ranch. He was known as the Virginian (James Drury; b. 1934).
The virginian's top hand was known as Trampas and played by Doug McClure (1935 - 1995). He and James Drury were the only two cast members to endure the entire series' run.
