Wagon Train was aired on NBC from series conception in 1957 to 1962; after that it was broadcast on ABC from 1962 to 1965.

According to Wikipedia, Wagon Train was inspired by the movie Wagon Master of 1950 which was directed by John Ford. Ward Bond was one of its stars.

The initial episodes starred Ward Bond (1903 - 1960) as the wagon master. Upon his death, he was replaced by John McIntire (1907 - 1991).

The series chronicled the journey of a wagon train as it traveled from Missouri to California. It ran 8 seasons with a total of 284 episodes.

I don't remember seeing Ward Bond when I watched this series as a youth but I remember John McIntire.

Roll along
Wagon Train.

Rollin over prairie where there ain't no grass,
Rollin over mountain where there ain't no pass.
Sittin on a board
eye in the weather,
Prayin to the Lord
We stay together
Side by side on the Wagon Train.

Wagon Train
Roll along.

Pickinup a passenger in every town,
Wonderin if he's ever gonna shoot you down.
Lookin for a pal,
ain't it a pity,
Lookin for a gal,
needn't be pretty
If she'll ride on the Wagon Train.

Wagons ho!

Gotta keep em on the run.
Time to go!
And follow the sun.
Roll along
Wagon Train.

Never had a cabin near a general store,
Only had a wagon and a forty four.
Sittin on a board
Eyein the weather
Prayin to the Lord
we stay together
Side by side on the Wagon Train..
